William E. Bray, formerly of Hartford, Conn, died Wednesday, (January 15, 2003) at his home in France. Born in Hartford, the son of the late Edward S. and Amy (Mitchell) Bray, he graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1940 and from UConn in 1948. He served in World War II in the European Theatre. William worked for the Continental Insurance Co. before accepting a position at Alexander & Alexander, which transferred him from New York City to London. After retiring, he returned to the United States in 1998 and with the assistance of the Senior Job Bank, he worked many jobs. He was employed by Prudential Realty, which he truly enjoyed before returning to France in 2001. William was a brilliant man who spoke several languages and traveled around the world many times. He is survived by his wife, Alix; a son Robert; step children, Georgia and Julian Delamaine; a sister, Sylvia MacLachlan; a nephew, William MacLachlan and his wife Debbie; a niece, Nancy and her husband Richard Sweeney; an aunt, Amy Cole; and several cousins, all of England; and two dear friends, William Bouvier and John Bray. Funeral services will be private in France.
