TED GUINN HARRIS, 80 was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on, August 8, 2003. He was born on January 14, 1923 in Wichita Falls, TX. He was most proud of the name Guinn, which was, derived from his grandfather, U.S. Rep. Guinn Williams from Decatur, TX, and his uncle, the movie character, Guinn (Big Boy) Williams who played in the Alamo. One of his happiest memories was his father, Theodore Harris, teaching him to fly fish in Red River, NM. He became an excellent fly fisherman. He attended the Citadel for a year and half at which time He and his entire class volunteered to join the war effort. He served with the Army Air Corp as a radar mechanic and was attached to the 37th Photo Reconn. Squadron, 5th Reconn. Group in Italy and with 309th Fighter Squadron, 31st Fighter Group in Italy. He was awarded the European / African / Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze stars for combat action in North Apennines, Po Valley, Rhineland and Air Combat Balkans. He was awarded numerous other medals and citations. Like many veterans, He never shared this information with his family. After returning home from the war he attended Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, TX. It was at Midwestern where he first laid eyes on his future bride Miss Barbara Jean Abernathy. At that moment, he bet his cowboy friend, Al Courtney, five dollars that he would marry that girl. He won that bet on Sept. 1, 1949. He and Barbara moved to Houston in 1957. The happiest day of his life was Nov. 8, 1959 when he and Barbara were blessed with their daughter, Guinndolyn. He enjoyed a twenty-six year career with the International Harvester Corp. In 1989 he was employed by Waukesha-Pearce Industries for eleven years retiring a second time at age seventy-seven. Work always meant a lot to him. He always enjoyed people and helping to solve problems. He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore Harris and Ruth Ernestine Williams Harris. He is survived by his sisters, Dixie Heath of Ft. Worth and Evangeline Singleton of Santa Fe, NM. Wife Barbara Jean Harris. Daughter Guinndolyn Sharpe, son-in-law Robert P. Sharpe and grandsons Christopher Guinn Sharpe, Perry Reeves Sharpe, and Samuel Adam Sharpe of Seabrook, Texas.
