Steve Spencer was born in Greensboro, NC to the late Winfred Irving Spencer and late Opal McMillan Spencer. Steve grew up in Fayetteville, NC before his family moved to Myrtle Beach. He spent summers as a Myrtle Beach lifeguard and perfecting the shag on the Grand Strand. While attending Myrtle Beach High School he was active in many clubs and was a member of the golf team. Upon graduation, Steve served as 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force before returning home to work for the City of Myrtle Beach. Steve would eventually be known for his award-winning 35-year career with Motorola which ultimately brought him back home to South Carolina.
Steve was married to the love of his life, Nancy, whom he met in Atlanta and had been married to for 38 years. Steve and Nancy enjoyed playing tennis, golf and traveling to the beach and mountains, eventually calling both home. In his retirement he continued to serve his community through the Rotary Club of Columbia, Rotary Club of Cashiers Valley and served as the President of the Wild Dunes Board of Directors.
