Robert “Chip” Earl Coffee, Jr., 73, of Camden, died peacefully at home after a long illness on Saturday, November 27th. He was born in Staunton, VA, to Robert “Bob” and Mary Frances Coffee. He moved to Camden as a child, attended Bethesda Church Kindergarten and was raised in Bethesda Church where his father was an elder.
He graduated from The Citadel in 1970 and married Betty Krell from Columbia in 1971 after beginning a 32-year banking career. Most of those years were spent along the Coast of South Carolina in community banking. He took pleasure in close connections to his clients and community, becoming a community leader in every town to which his career led him. He started a bank in Little River, SC and another later in Mount Pleasant.
After his family, his first love was golf and more recently his grandson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty, of 50 years, and two sons Dr. Robert E. Coffee, III of Houston, TX and Patrick Morrah Coffee of Brooklyn, NY, their spouses and his grandson, Fionn. He has two surviving sisters Mary Beth Kearse and Ann Jennings, in addition to a niece and nephews.
Services and Celebration of His Life will be announced at a later date.
