Richard D. Caston, Jr., of Charlotte, N.C., passed through the Gates of Heaven on Saturday, February 12, 2022. He is now with his Lord and Savior.
Born on October 11, 1956 to the late Richard and Anne Hopkins Caston in Charlotte, Rick graduated from The Citadel and proudly served his country as Captain in the US Air Force. He earned the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship ribbon amongst other military honors.
Rick would be the first to tell you that he earned his pilot’s license before his driver’s license as his love of flying was his passion. Soon after he was honorably discharged, Rick joined Piedmont Airlines as a pilot and continued his career with American Airlines.
Rick’s other loves were his devotion of smoking meats on the grill, making his own hot sauce, growing peppers and flying remote control airplanes. He loved being on his motorcycle, especially during Bike Week at Myrtle Beach where he cherished spending family vacations each summer.
Rick often enjoyed the motorcycle ride of his life as he braved the eleven miles and 318 curves of the Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap. Watching thunderstorms roll through the area as he sat in his screened in back porch was another favored past time.
Left to mourn his loss are his daughters Jennifer (Josh) Cable and Stephanie Caston; grandchildren Landon and Autumn Cable; brothers Rusty and Robby; niece Crystal and his six beloved cats.
The family will greet friends on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 12:30pm at Southbrook Church located at 5607 Weddington Road in Weddington. A Celebration of Life will start at 2pm with burial and US Air Force funeral honors immediately following at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.
**PLEASE NOTE – flowers should be delivered directly to Southbrook Church. Thank you.
