BREWER, Richard Richard Dick Brewer, 75, of North Charleston, S.C., husband of Mary Karr Brewer, died Thursday, January 15, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, January 17, 2004, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church at 2 o’clock. Burial will be in Dorchester Memory Gardens. Friends may call at Parks Funeral Home this Friday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105. Mr. Brewer was born February 4, 1928, in Valdosta, Ga., he was the only child of the late Louie Brewer and Bell Dyson Brewer. He was a star athlete at North Charleston High School and played in both the Shrine Bowl and the North/South All-Star Game in 1947. A 1948 graduate of North Charleston High, he attended the Citadel on a football scholarship and entered the US Air Force in 1952. Lt. Colonel Brewer served throughout the United States, Germany, Vietnam and retired in 1975. He worked the next 13 years at Garret High School as the Guidance Director. Together Richard and his wife Mary raised seven children of their own then loved and provided for sixteen foster babies. Survivors include his wife, Mary Karr Brewer of North Charleston, S.C.; six daughters, Donna Evans of Bow, N.H., Karen Huffman of Summerville, S.C., Nancy Bryant of Memphis, Tenn., Diane Myers of North Charleston, S.C., Caroline Huffman of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Jo Lynn Harrison of North Charleston, S.C.; one son, Richard D. Brewer, Jr., of Charleston, S.C.; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Arrangements by PARKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., SUMMERVILLE, S.C.
