Reginald Richard Sipe, Jr., of Greensboro, NC, died March 30, 2015. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 3, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 410 N. Holden Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410.Born in Bennettsville, SC on December 30,1942 he was the son of Reginald Richard and Hazel Pauline Sipe. He attended Cheraw, SC public schools. He was an Eagle Scout in Troop 653.He attended The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina in Charleston, SC graduating with a BS in Mathematics with departmental honors, and also graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Masters of Business Administration degree.He was a U.S. army veteran, serving in the Air Defense Artillery in Fort Bliss, Texas. He was awarded the Army Commendation medal for his services.He was initially employed by Burlington Industries from 1968 to 1988 in various assignments in the Controller function, with assignments in Wake Forest, NC, Greensboro, NC, Rockleigh, NJ, NYC, and Asheboro, NC. He continued in its successor company, Burlington Glass Fabrics, as Chief Financial Officer. In 1993 he joined Geodax Technologies, a chain of nuclear pharmacies, as Chief Financial Officer, retiring in 2010.He was a 25 year member of the Institute of Management Accountants.A lifelong Methodist, he and his family transferred to Christ United Methodist Church in 1978 after moving to Greensboro where he served as Chairman of the Financial and Staff/Parish committees as well as Sunday school class president.He was active in various community volunteer commitments and was a member of the Carolina Theatre Commission. He was the treasurer of the Eastern Music Festival and a member of its Scholarship Committee. He was treasurer of Music for a Great Space.He was a member of the local advisory board of RBC Centura Bank.In 1996 Richard and Nan were awarded the Mary B. Taylor award from the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina for outstanding service to children. They also served as foster parents for infants for 18 years.He was a member of the Piedmont Triad Citadel Club and a Life Member of the Citadel Alumni Association.He was a marshal at the 1999 and the 2005 USGA Open in Pinehurst, NC.Surviving are his wife, Nan Shannon Sipe, daughter, Shannon Saweikis (Michael) and grandchildren Matthew, Jonathon, and Rachael, and son, Graham of High Point. Surviving also are his brother Nicholas P. Sipe and wife Lee, and their sons, daughter and grandchildren from South Carolina.The family will receive friends at the church after the service.
