The Citadel Alumni Association Contributes to Scholarships

The Citadel Alumni Association capped off a banner year of giving at its annual membership meeting. The Association will contribute $900,000 to support college operations, CAA legacy cadet and need-based scholarships, and enhance The Citadel’s Service to Country Tuition Scholarships and National Service Room and Board Scholarships for ROTC cadets.

  • The Anderson Area Citadel Club has two great events lined up for The Citadel vs. Clemson Football Game.

Event One: Please join The Anderson Area Citadel Club on Friday, November 22nd, at The Social Tap for The Citadel vs. Clemson Pre-Game Party and Social.  Our Anderson area alumni are proud to host all our alumni guests traveling to town for the big game!

The Event will be held at The Social Tap,

1475 Pearman Dairy Road Unit D, Anderson, SC 29625.

Doors Open: 5:30

This is a family event, and we look forward to seeing the entire Citadel family.

The Social Tap will provide a Wing Buffet. Beverages purchased individually.

This is a free event, however, donations to the Anderson Area Citadel Club and/or the Brigadier Foundation are greatly appreciated.

Event Two: Please join the Anderson Area Citadel Club on Saturday, November 23rd, for a Pre-Game/Post-Game Tailgate at Clemson.

The Tailgate will be held in LOT 5, just behind the Stadium opposite the Hill. Please feel free to stop by!

Free drinks and tailgate food will be provided while supplies last!

This is a Free Event, however, Donations to The Citadel Alumni Association and the Anderson Area Citadel Club are strongly encouraged.

  • On November 16, 2009, Space Shuttle Atlantis, lifted off from Kennedy Space Center at 2:28 p.m. EST, on a utilization and logistics flight and arrived at the International Space Station on the afternoon of November 18, making Col Randy Bresnik, USMC, Ret., '89, the first Bulldog in space! Go Dogs!

Dr. Ronald A. Charles, '65

Charles holds 9th degree Judo black belt rank. The US Judo Association twice inducted him into its National Hall of Fame and honored him with Lifetime Achievement Awards in 2010 and 2020. 

He learned Judo as a freshman in 1961 through a required physical education course. 

He earned his black belt in Tokyo at the Kodokan Judo Institute, where he studied for more than a year under a direct former student of Judo’s founder. Charles propagated Judo to hundreds of clubs in more 40 countries on five continents. 

In 2010 the World Judo Museum in Berlin presented him with their Medal of Honor. His Judo uniform, adorned with every certification patch, is now one of their featured exhibits. 

Charles also holds 7th degree black belt rank in traditional Jujitsu and co-authored the Jujitsu Manual of the United States Judo Association. He has taught Jujitsu worldwide.

Eight years after his graduation, he returned to The Citadel and earned a master’s degree and received his PhD degree from the University of South Carolina. Charles also earned a post-doctoral master’s degree from The Citadel. 

In the 1990s he taught Judo and coached the team at The Citadel. For decades Charles ran the USJA’s largest club, the Samurai Judo Association, sharing Judo and Jujitsu instruction without charge. 

Charles served six elected terms as president of Coastal Carolina Mensa, the area chapter of the international high-IQ society.

  • The 1992 Bulldog Football team became the winningest in The Citadel's history. The "Dream Season" included a 50-0 victory over VMI on November 14, 1992.

The Bulldogs made it to the second round of the NCAA playoffs.
