  • As we welcome the month of May—culminating in Memorial Day—we take a moment to honor and remember the lives and legacies of several alumni who have recently passed, in recognition of the many sacrifices made by members of our community.

We begin by remembering Mr. David L. Shuler, Jr., Class of ’55.

After a successful career with the Ford Motor Company, Mr. Shuler made it his mission to give back by volunteering at Patriot’s Point in Mount Pleasant for 30 years. His passion for preserving the stories of American veterans led him to work tirelessly as a docent at the historic site. Through his dedication, Mr. Shuler helped guide countless visitors through the USS Yorktown, a testament to his deep respect for military service and history.

Beyond his work at Patriot’s Point, Mr. Shuler was also involved in supporting veterans’ programs and education, always striving to ensure that future generations would never forget the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom. His service is a shining example of how one person can make a lasting impact on their community, and we are forever grateful for his commitment to preserving the legacy of our nation’s heroes.

His devotion to honoring veterans stands as a powerful reminder of the values we hold dear and the true meaning of Memorial Day.
