Lawrence S. Montano, of Charleston, SC, died Monday, December 28, 2009. Mr. Montano was married to Edith Bishop Montano and formerly to the late Adelma Orlandi Montano. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on October 19, 1922. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in Brooklyn, NY, received his B.L.S. Degree from Oklahoma University and his Master’s Degree in Teaching from The Citadel. He worked for the Department of Defense for 33 years in the Navy Department. After retiring, he was an instructor at Trident Technical College for 12 years. He served in the US Navy in both WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as the president of the Men’s Club. He volunteered at the Crisis Center, the Elder Hostel Program at the College of Charleston, Boy Scouts of America, and the Spoleto Festival from its onset. He also served on the Board of Directors of the S.C. Federal Credit Union. He was a member of the Elk’s Club and was past president of the Ansonborough Society. Besides his wife Edith, he is survived by a daughter, Mary-Frances Moore (James M.) of Lilburn, GA, and a son, David L. Montano of Charleston; grandsons, Capt. James M. Moore, Jr. USMC, Camp Lejune, NC (Dallas B.) and Joseph C. Moore of Lilburn, GA, and great-granddaughters, Mary Margaret Sutton Moore. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Donna Bishop Brauer (Albert) of Loveland, OH, step-son David M. Bishop of Charleston, and step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Brauer Haase (Kelby) of Loveland, OH. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date.
