Joseph Hugh Allston, of Clinton, SC, died on April 13, 2015 at the age of 90. Funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Hartsville, S.C. at 11:00 on Saturday, April 18 with visitation afterward. Born in Hartsville, he was the son of the late Joseph North Allston and Lillis McCollum Allston. He attended the Citadel and after World War II graduated from the University of South Carolina. During World War II, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Seabees, built airfields on Okinawa, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Mr. Allston was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Hartsville for most of his life. He was a charter member of the Hartsville Kiwanis Club and the Pee Dee Sailing Society. He served as a Director of the Bank of Hartsville and of the Hartsville Chamber of Commerce. He owned a food service business and a car dealorship. Mr. Allston is survived by his wife of 65 years June Reynolds Allston of Clinton; sons Joseph H. Allston of Camden and Stephen W. Allston (Zoe) of Lexington and daughter Aline A. Ferguson (Leland) of Blythewood; and grandchildren Samuel Ferguson of New York City and Amy Ferguson of Blythewood. He was predeceased by his sister Adele A. King.
