James Cothran Perrin, III, of Greenville, South Carolina died unexpectedly of natural causes July 31, 2018. He was the son of James Cothran Perrin, Jr. and Gladys Browning Lamar Perrin. He was born February 16, 1954 in Brownsville, Texas. He graduated from the Citadel (the third generation of his family to do so) with an undergraduate degree in English in 1976. While at the Citadel he was Commander of Hotel (H) Company. He served honorably in the United States Army, Airborne Division, at the rank of First Lieutenant, and after discharge returned to complete his education at the University of South Carolina, earning a Master’s Degree in English in 1984. He taught in the public schools of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Greenville, South Carolina, as well as working for the Sara Lee Corporation. He is survived by his sister Jean Perrin Derrick of Irmo, SC; nephew Trent Lowman Derrick, Charleston, SC; paternal uncle Neill Macaulay Perrin of Greenville, SC; and first cousins Carol Carr‚ Perrin of Greenville, SC; Susan Perrin Watson (Steve) of Greenville, SC; Ann Perrin Hendrix (Mark) of Arden, NC; Perrin Coxe Kreidler (Charles) of Greenville, SC; Isabelle Coxe Mercado of Greer, SC; William Burton Coxe, III of Tryon, NC; and Neill Macaulay Coxe (Lisa) of Clover, SC. Other surviving cousins are Lisa Hall Edwards (Ted) of Clinton, MS; Joanna Hall Mixon (Barry) of Goose Creek, SC; Joe Arnold Tarrant, Jr. (Janet) of New Albany, MS; and Emily C. Tarrant of New Albany, MS. He was predeceased by his parents, and aunts Mary Perrin Coxe, Lena Glover Perrin, Elaine Lamar McGregor and first cousins Joe Arnold Tarrant and Ann Tarrant Hall, as well as Gigi Hall. Jimmy enjoyed his golf excursions, and in retirement discovered a delight in gardening and raising flowers, which he inherited from his mother. He would frequently email his sister photos of flowers and nesting birds. He was an avid fan of the Greenville Drive. Visitation will be in Fellowship Hall of the Greenville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 741 Cleveland Street, Greenville, SC 29601, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2018, with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. An inurnment at Graceland East, 2206 Woodruff Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29681 will follow, and his family and friends will thereafter celebrate and remember him with a light repast outdoors, in the beauty of the world he loved. Honorary Pallbearers are fellow members of the Confederate Colonel’s Club. The Sixteenth South Carolina Colour Guard of Honour of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will provide an honor guard and volley at inurnment.
