James (Jim) Clark Borden, 75, of Valrico, Florida, widower of Billinda Barr Borden, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, surrounded by his loving family in Myrtle Beach, SC. Jim was born November 2, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana, son of the late Harold A. Borden and Elizabeth M. (Vickers) Borden. Jim was an active member of his high school’s rifle team at North Central High School, Indiana. Jim attended college at The Citadel, where he was again an active member of the rifle team, was in Lima Company, and graduated Class of 1965. During his senior year, Jim met his late wife Billinda. In October of 1966, Jim and Billinda were engaged to be married and on May 13, 1967 they married in Sarasota, FL. Jim went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1966 1968, discharging with the rank of Captain with a Military Police Unit. Jim joined the former Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD), predecessor to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as a Special Agent. His career took him to Boston, MA; to New York, NY; to Tampa, FL; to Miami, FL; and to Washington, DC. Jim retired as a Supervisory Special Agent from the Drug Enforcement Administration effective January 2000 after serving 32 years as a Special Agent. Jim ultimately retired to Valrico, FL in 2002. Jim was and maintained active memberships in many organizations including, but not limited to; Federal Law Enforcement Officer’s Association, International Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association, Association of Former Federal Narcotic Agents, Free and Accepted Masons of Florida and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Life Member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Life Member Citadel Alumni Association, and The Citadel Foundation; Order of the Tartan. Jim spent much of his time at Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country Club, the Brandon Elks Lodge, and participating in various poker tournaments. Jim is survived by his only child, Brett; daughter-in-law, Rachel; and four grandchildren, Kaiden, Weston, Corbin, and Cashtan, all with provisional appointments to The Citadel, and who all currently reside in Greensboro, NC. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Southern Funeral Care, 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview, FL. A small reception for family and friends to gather will be held later at Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country Club, 2721 S. Miller Road, Valrico, FL.
