Joseph Herbert Wise, affectionately known as Herb, of Dallas, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, at the age of 82 in Dallas, Texas. Born on April 5, 1943, in Columbia, South Carolina, Herb was the son of William Whatley Wise and Josephine Haddock Wise. He graduated from The Citadel in 1965 and proudly served his country as a B-52 pilot in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1970. After his military service, Herb transitioned into a successful career in corporate America. He held positions in human resources, sales, and recruiting at several notable companies, including Colgate-Palmolive, Helena Rubenstein, International Computers Limited, and the Sandhurst Group. His career took him to cities across the country-Chicago, New York, Boston, San Francisco-and ultimately to Dallas, Texas, which he called home for the past 36 years, aside from a nine-year chapter in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Herb was a man of diverse interests and great passion. He found joy in hunting, fishing, golfing, and traveling the world. A true lover of the arts, he enjoyed opera and was an enthusiastic stylophile. Most of all, Herb cherished spending meaningful time with his friends and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Whatley and Josephine Wise; his sister, Joyce Bradham; his twin brother, John Wise; and his beloved black Labrador retriever, Banjo. Herb leaves behind a legacy of love and connection. He is survived by his nephews Jody and Meredith Bradham of Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia, and Troy and Clarissa Bradham and their children Luke, Journey, and Levi of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Wise of Columbia, South Carolina. In Dallas, Herb built cherished bonds with his adopted families: Marcos Moore; Adrienne Faulkner; and Cathrine and David Hardman (now of Durango, Colorado), along with their children Braedyn and Briana Moore, and Noah and Aiden Faulkner. A celebration of Herb’s life will be held in Dallas. In accordance with his wishes, his remains will be laid to rest in Columbia, South Carolina. Herb’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
