David was a believer in the importance of community service and enjoyed numerous activities and involvement at North Charleston United Methodist Church A tree accident on the family farm in North nearly cost him his life and required two years of recuperation and recovery. The physical challenges did not dampen his desire to contribute to those around him. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was raised as a Master Mason, twice serving as Worshipful Master. He was head of all three bodies in York Rite and was also a Scottish Rite Mason. He was Past Director of Omar Shrine and Treasurer of South Atlantic Shrine Association. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends, even more so if it involved being on or near the water. In 2010, he and Sharon were thrilled to gain a daughter when William married the former Charise Tripp. This joy was increased exponentially with the arrival of Jonathan David Axson in 2016. When Jonathan dubbed him “Papa” everyone knew who was number one on his priority list and couldn’t have imagined it any other way.
