Carl A. Rossman Jr., 68, of Greensburg, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016, at his home due to complications from pancreatic cancer. Born in Hampton, Va., he was a son of the late Carl and Georgianna Burnett Rossman. He was also predeceased by his wife, Joyce T. Rossman, to whom he was married for 45 years. He is survived by a son, Matthew Rossman and wife, Penelope; a daughter, Mary Rossman; and a granddaughter, Lyla Rossman. Carl graduated from Augusta Military Academy High School in Virginia in 1966 and later graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., in 1970, with a Bachelor of Education. He earned his private pilot’s license and was commissioned in the Air Force in 1970, where he aced his pilot training and became a B-52 pilot. His distinguished Air Force career spanned 24 years and he retired as a colonel, having served in various combat, senior leadership and education focused assignments all over the world. In 1999, Carl began his second career as the vice president of administrative affairs for the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, where he worked diligently for 17 years. He was a longtime member of the Greensburg Rotary Club, where he served as president among other key positions and was recognized in 2015 as Rotarian of the Year. Carl also served the community of Greensburg in many other important roles and organizations making a lasting positive impact. Carl loved to travel. He visited and experienced new places as often as possible. He enjoyed watching sports, movies and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle on long road trips. He was a skilled trap shooter, frequently played golf and especially enjoyed influencing the next generation of young leaders as a regional coordinator of the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy.
Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016, at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Chapel. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m.
