Frederick “Fred” Lynn Latham, 77, husband of Betty Smith Latham, passed away on July 14, 2025 at Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont after a decade-long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born July 3, 1948, in Burlington, NC, he was the son of the late William Latham and Billie Wheeler Latham. Mr. Latham grew up in Hanahan, SC, and served in the United States Air Force Reserve. He was a 1970 graduate of Clemson University in industrial management and later earned his MBA from The Citadel. He began his career at C&S Bank (now Bank of America) and later MUSC as the Director of Patient Admissions.
Mr. Latham retired from Self Regional Healthcare as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer after 23 years of dedicated service in a variety of roles at the hospital. He was a faithful Christian and a dedicated member of St. Mark United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and taught the Pairs and Spares Sunday school class for 20 years. Fred was an avid golfer, a devoted Clemson fan, and cherished spending time with his family and friends. He also served on a wide range of church committees and local boards and was a Paul Harris Fellow with the Greenwood Rotary Club. Fred was known for his dedicated leadership, sense of humor, and jovial spirit.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Betty Latham; his son David Latham and wife Rebecca of Fort Payne, Alabama; his daughter Pamela Petoskey and husband Sam of Unionville, NC; his brother, Michael Latham and wife Cheryl of Hansville, Washington; and five beloved grandchildren: Stokes, Ellie-Grace, Jack, Charlie, and Henry who lovingly knew him as Papa Fred.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. Jason Wilson along with Mr. Latham’s son, Rev. David Latham, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be David Latham, Stokes Latham, Sam Petoskey, Charlie Dubis, Dubie Brown, and Brian Waldrep.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 Wednesday evening at Blyth Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church or Rocksteady Boxing, Greenwood YMCA.
