Andrew E. Kreek, Jr., a veteran and resident of Summerville, SC, passed away on June 18, 2024, surrounded by his wife & loved ones. Andy was born March 19, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY to Andrew & Lucille (Mulhall) Kreek. Andy was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Patricia (Jerry) Dieterich. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Kreek, her daughters, Christina Giuliano & Diana (Justin) DePasquale, and 5 grandchildren, his brother, Michael (Leslie) Kreek, his sons, Dr. Andrew (Jennifer) Kreek, Jr., Matthew Kreek, and Gregory (Samantha) Kreek, his daughter, Julie (Chris) Chism, and 9 grandchildren that he shared with the mother of his children, Diana Kreek. Throughout high school, Andy participated in Chess Club, Football, Baseball, and Basketball. In 1965, he graduated from the Citadel with a B.A. in Political Science. He held an M.P.A. (NYU) and an M.A. in Childhood Development (SBU). After NYU, Andy enlisted in the Army as an officer, leading to several military accolades, including a Bronze Star. He served two tours in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in August 1971 as a Captain 0-3. He then began a rewarding career with the Port Authority of NY & NJ that spanned 33 years, while also volunteering time to community organizations. Andy’s devotion to family, faith, and country was highlighted by his discipline and service to others; including, coaching & mentoring youth, and environmental conservation. He was warm-hearted, stoic & selfless-remembered for his candor & unapologetic authenticity. Those who became friends often remained so for life. Andy’s family will be forever grateful to Phyllis for her compassion, benevolence, and for the adventures they shared, including ministries, sports, and travel. Phyllis carefully coordinated a memorial service to celebrate Andy’s life. His wake will be held at J. A. Dyal Funeral Home, Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 6-8pm. The funeral mass will be Monday, June 24th, at St. John the Beloved Church at noon. Burial and military honors will take place at Carolina Memorial Garden directly after mass, followed by a reception at the Goose Creek American Legion, Post 166 at 4pm.
