The Citadel Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus Highlight LTG John F. Kimmons, USA, Ret., '74 LTG Kimmons dedicated 35 years to the U.S. Army, retiring on December 1, 2010, after a career marked by leadership and integrity. From leading troops during Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada as a Company Commander in the 82nd Airborne Division, to serving as the Army's Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Commanding General of INSCOM, and Chief of Staff to the Director of National Intelligence—Kimmons made a lasting impact on national security. The University of South Carolina recognized Dr. Robert H. Sandel, '67, as the 2025 Retired Educator Award recipient in its Champions of Education program on March 27.
