The Citadel Alumni Association Contributes to Scholarships

The Citadel Alumni Association capped off a banner year of giving at its annual membership meeting. The Association will contribute $900,000 to support college operations, CAA legacy cadet and need-based scholarships, and enhance The Citadel’s Service to Country Tuition Scholarships and National Service Room and Board Scholarships for ROTC cadets.

  • The Citadel Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus Highlight

LTG William P. Tangney, USA, Ret., '67

Tangney spent his 35-year distinguished military career in Special Operations.  He saw service in Vietnam with the Army's Special Forces (MACV-SOG-CCS). 

Tangney commanded at all levels of the Special Operations community, including Commanding General, Special Operations Central Command; Commanding General, US Army JFK Special Warfare Center and School; Commander-in-Chief, US Army Special Operations Command; and Deputy Commander-in-Chief US Special Operations Command. He retired from the U.S. Army in November 2002. 

Tangney's military awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star with V, the Bronze Star with 2 oak leaf clusters and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
