The Citadel Alumni Association Contributes to Scholarships

The Citadel Alumni Association capped off a banner year of giving at its annual membership meeting. The Association will contribute $900,000 to support college operations, CAA legacy cadet and need-based scholarships, and enhance The Citadel’s Service to Country Tuition Scholarships and National Service Room and Board Scholarships for ROTC cadets.

Gen. Glenn M. Walters, USMC, Ret., ’79

Walters was designated a Naval Aviator in March 1981. A U.S. Marine Corps aviator and graduate of the Navy Test Pilot School, his operational commands and assignments span all positions in Marine aviation, culminating in his command of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing.

He served in support of Operation Earnest Will in the Persian Gulf in 1987 and commanded 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in 2010. In 2015, he was appointed Assistant Commandant for Programs and Resources at Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, and from 2016 to 2018 served as the 34th Assistant Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps.

In 2018, Walters became the 20th President of The Citadel.

His military awards include the Navy Distinguished Service Medal with one gold award star, Defense Superior Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, and Legion of Merit with one award star.
