The Citadel Alumni Association Contributes to Scholarships

The Citadel Alumni Association capped off a banner year of giving at its annual membership meeting. The Association will contribute $900,000 to support college operations, CAA legacy cadet and need-based scholarships, and enhance The Citadel’s Service to Country Tuition Scholarships and National Service Room and Board Scholarships for ROTC cadets.

  • March 14, 1892: "A major fire broke out, possibly from a cinder that had slipped through a crack in a chimney caused by the quake. Whatever the cause, the fire did far more damage to the school. A photograph of the day shows a crowd gathered around Marion Square watching flames lapping out of most every window." The Post and Courier

  • The Citadel Army ROTC Palmetto Battalion had the honor of hosting LTG E. Miles Brown, USA, ’95, the Deputy Commanding General of Army Futures Command and an alumnus of the program. During his visit, Brown engaged with The Citadel’s Defense Cyber Institute, had lunch with Army cadets, and provided an update on the future of the Army for soon-to-be second lieutenants. He also fielded questions and led a battalion run for morning PT. Brown concluded his visit by attending the annual Senior Dining Out, where he graciously served as the guest speaker.

LtGen Garry L. Parks, USMC, Ret., '69

During his distinguished 35-year military career, Parks served as Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Commanding General of the Marine Corps Recruiting Command, Commanding General of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, and Chief of Staff, U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific.

He also served in South Vietnam as a platoon leader and company executive officer with the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion.

Parks retired from the Marine Corps in 2004. His military awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star with Combat “V.”

Following his retirement, he served as CEO of Efficient Energy Advisors LLC. Prior to that, he was president and CEO of the South Carolina Credit Union League and Affiliates.
