Erich J. Peschel, '06, reached the summit of Granite Peak-Montana's highest point at 12,799 feet-on July 21, 2025. Considered the second most difficult of the 50 state highpoints, Granite Peak marks his 20th successful summit in his quest to climb them all.

LCDR Andrew C. Tangen, USN, Ret., '06, was elected on July 16, 2025, as the president of the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers at their annual conference held in Louisville, Ky.

On July 27, 1940, Horace (Sally) Crouch, '40, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army through the Army ROTC program at The Citadel. In February 1942, he was selected for the Doolittle Raid on Japan, where he served as navigator, bombardier, and door gunner. It was the first bomber raid launched from an aircraft carrier and was briefed as a one-way mission. Crouch directed the crew to Tokyo and successfully hit the target before bailing out over China as planned, due to insufficient fuel to return to the carrier. He remained in China for more than a year and flew 25 additional missions. After retiring from the Air Force, he taught mathematics in Columbia schools for 25 years.
