WANNAMAKER, III, W. ORANGEBURG – Mr. William W. Wannamaker III, 79, or Orangeburg, SC, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2006, in Columbia SC. Memorial service to be announced by DUKES- HARLEY FUNERAL HOME. Services will be at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer with Rev. Dr. Frank E. Larsey. Burial in Sunnyside Cemetery. Mr. Wannamaker was born in Orangeburg, a son of the late William W. Wannamaker Jr. and the late Evelyn Townsend Wannamaker of Orangeburg. A graduate of the Citadel, Cornell University, and the University of South Carolina, he was President of the Wateree Chemical Company. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Orangeburg, where he was a Lay Reader and Chalice Bearer. A former member of the Board of Directors of York Place, the Episcopal Church Home for Children at York, SC, he was also a past president of the Camden Rotary Club. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and in the Naval Reserve. He also served as Elector in the 1964 United States Presidential Election. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Betty Ray Davis Wannamaker of the Home; children, Ray Sabalis, Harriet Gettys, William Wannamaker IV, Preston Wannamaker, Amelia Powers, Sarah Karpie, and Mary Hendrix; 14 Grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Wannamaker Richards. He was Predeceased by his sister: Mary Lyall Wannamaker Murray. Memorials may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 1606 Russell ST.
