William Roy Swancy Jr. SPARTANBURG – William Roy Swancy, Jr., 68, husband of Harriette Collins Swancy of 609 Spencer Circle, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 11, 2005. Born in Augusta, Georgia, on January 3, 1937, he was a son of the late William Roy, Sr., and Esther Tankersley Swancy. Mr. Swancy graduated from Richmond Academy, attended Darlington Prep School, and graduated from The Citadel, Class of 1960. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Spartan Foods after 18 years of service. Mr. Swancy was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church for more than forty years. Survivors include his devoted wife of forty-five years; a son, Mark Swancy and his wife, Gini, of St. Louis, Missouri; a daughter, Karen Smith and her husband, Johnny, of Florence; a brother, Barry Swancy of Augusta, Georgia, and five grandchildren, Ryan, Murphy, and Peyton Swancy and Julia and Claire Lawson. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Michael McCafferty officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parish Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials in remembrance of Mr. Swancy may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund, 161 North Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
