Funeral service for William “Bill” Oliver Fulmer, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at Washington Street United Methodist Church, Christ Chapel, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Fulmer died Friday, October 18, 2013. Born 1926 in Palm Beach, Fla., he was a son to the late Olivia Guental and Henry David Fulmer, Sr. He was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church. In his earlier years, Bill attended The Citadel and then The Georgia Institute of Technology where he received his degree in architecture. A leader in the state for historical preservation, he helped preserve many historical structures including the Maxcy Gregg House. Having served the Columbia area for more than 50 years, Bill was a former chairman for the Columbia Landmarks Commission and was the first recipient of the South Carolina Governor’s award for Historic Preservation. His family looked up to him for his strength of character, convictions and morals. Bill is remembered by his family as a dedicated provider and loving father. Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Edith Anne Webber Fulmer; children, Rebecca (Becky) Guental Fulmer, Susan Alison Fulmer, Henry David Fulmer, III; grandchildren, David Reed Hasterok Fulmer, Matthew Charles Hasterok Fulmer, Forrest Fulmer, Cheroane Fulmer, Zachary Fulmer; great-grandchildren, Joy Glynn Hasterok Fulmer, Gabriel Fulmer; and grand dogs, Blue and Tango. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Henry David Fulmer, II, who died in service during WWII; and grandson, Julian Fulmer.
