William Joseph “Woody” Marshall of Eutawville passed away December 15, 2025.
Born on September 27, 1955, in Troy, New York, Woody was the son of the late Ethel Shuler Ferris and Kermit Marshall.
Woody graduated from high school in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He earned his undergraduate degree from Newberry College and later received his master’s degree from The Citadel. Devoted to education, Coach Marshall as he was affectionally known spent more than 30 years teaching physical education and health, as well as coaching in the Orangeburg School District, where he positively impacted countless students and athletes.
Woody had a deep love for music, especially The Beach Boys and classic oldies. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his beloved collie dogs, and was a passionate South Carolina Gamecocks fan. Those who knew Coach Marshall will remember his dedication to others, his love of learning, and his generous spirit.
He is survived by his sister, Cynthia “Cyndee” Garcia (Benjamin); nieces, Jessica Garcia and Ember-Brooks Cortes; nephews, Ryan, Dustin, Erik, and Hunter Garcia; and his lifelong companion, Susan Harrison.
Woody is preceded in death by his parents and a special aunt and uncle Albert and Dorothy Hodson.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Avinger Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 p.m. The family asks that you honor Woody by wearing garnet and black.
