William H. (Ot) Blount, Jr. passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2010. Ot was born in Pompano Beach, Florida, August 25, 1923 to William H. and Gertrude Mason Blount. He attended Pompano High School and was a proud member of the “Beanpickers”. He attended the Citadel in Charleston, SC. Ot was a World War II Veteran, serving as first lieutenant and Pilot and flew A-20s in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1946. He owned and operated Wallace Concrete Pipe Company until retiring in 1985. His many accomplishments in life include: Past President of SC Concrete Pipe Association, Past Board Member of American Concrete Pipe Association, Past President of SC Motor Transportation Association, Past President of Indian Waters Council, Boy Scouts of America and he was awarded the Silver Beaver and Order of the Arrow by the Boy Scout Council. He was also a past member of the Columbia Lions Club, past member of the Lake Murray Navy, past participant of the Chapin High School Greatest Generation Project, Past Treasurer of SC Affiliate of American Diabetes Association and was an avid supporter of Camp Adam Fisher. Ot was a past charter member of Board of Visitors of Columbia College and he was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. A lifelong outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling the country with his wife, Jean, in their motorcoach. Ot is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Wallace Blount; his daughters, Dottie (Nelson) Moore, Judy (Donnie) Humphries, Barbara (Danny) Pierce; his granddaughters, Kate Wallace Humphries and Sara Mason Humphries and his sisters, Jean Blount Hogan of Pompano Beach, Florida and Helen Blount Collins of Myrtle Beach, SC. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 400 River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church or the Charity of your Choice.
