William Herbert (Bill) Allen, Jr. passed away on June 30th, 2024. Bill was born October 1st, 1931, in Conway, S.C to William Herbert Allen and Alma Price Allen. Bill also lived in North Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Rock Hill, Columbia, S.C., and Clermont, Florida.
Growing up, Bill was affectionally called Herbie. As a teenager, he assisted his parents in establishing Allen’s Auto Service. A graduate of Wampee High School and The Citadel, Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with distinction as an Infantry Officer in Germany at the conclusion of the Korean War. He was proud of his ties to the Corps of Cadets, the Army, and continued his support to the American Legion. In addition to a career in banking, Bill enjoyed volunteering to support various community activities. He could always be counted on to be an enthusiastic spectator for his children and grandchildren’s activities.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa, his sister, Patricia Watson and his brother, Jerry Allen. He is survived by his sister, Janice Ayres, children Beth Whitten (Stan), Roger Allen, and Walter Allen (Casey); grandchildren Jennifer Krantz (Eric), Mark Whitten, Lucas Allen, Logan Allen, Harper Allen, and Liam Allen; great-grandchildren Noah Krantz and Evelyn Krantz; and special nieces Regina Allen and Susan Stoffel.
The Allen family would like to thank their family and friends for their prayers and thoughts at this time.
Gifts of remembrance may be given to American Legion Post #182 and the American Heart Association.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 9th, 11:00 at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens, 5000 Highway 17, North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
