William C. Doar, 81, of Myrtle Beach, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018 with his wife by his side. Although he was ill for over ten years he never lost his dry sense of humor, kindness or the ability to be the prefect “Southern Gentleman”. He was born April 25, 1936 in Sumter, SC a son of the late Thomas Screven and Eugenia Cuttino Doar. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Screven Doar III and a nephew, Chapman Doar. Bill is a 1958 Citadel graduate and attended the University of South Carolina. He served the United States Army, with a tour of duty in Korea. He taught accounting at Florence-Darlington Tech and spent many years in manufacturing accounting. After moving to Myrtle Beach area with his family in 1978 he became the Budget and Finance Director for the City of Myrtle Beach. After retiring from the City of Myrtle Beach he spent the next years working for Manpower, a family owned business. He is a member of Belin United Methodist Church and served his community through the Myrtle Beach Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He volunteered much of his time to the Better Business Bureau where he served as Chairman of the Board for the Coastal Carolina Better Business Inc. from 1991-1995. Survivors include his wife, Patricia T. Doar, of Myrtle Beach, SC; a daughter, Teresa Clare Kern of Columbia, SC; a son, William C. Doar and wife, Laura of Florence, SC; two grandsons, Jonathan T. Doar and William T. Doar, III; two granddaughters, Meredith and Mallory Doar; a great granddaughter, Libby Hayes and two nephews, Thomas Screven Doar IV and Christopher Gadsden Doar. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 19, 2018 at Belin United Methodist Church in Murrells Inlet, SC with Rev. Mike B. Alexander officiating. The family will greet friends in the church’s family life center following the service until 1:30 PM. Burial will be at 3:00 PM, Friday, January 19, 2018 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, SC.
