William A. “Lefty” Edwins, Jr. 85, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital. Mr. Edwins was born February 2, 1929 in Orangeburg, a son of the late William A. Edwins, Sr. and Mrs. Henrietta Oliver Edwins. He was a 1951 graduate of the Citadel, where he lettered in varsity baseball for four years. He was a member of the Association of Citadel Men, Block C Club, Pee Dee Citadel Club, the Athletic Advisory Committee, and the Brigadier Club. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was assigned to an Anti-Artillery and Field Artillery Unit. Lefty was a sales representative for Standard Oil Co. (Esso) from 1954-1990, and later for Santee Oil Co., Carolina Oil Co, and Thomlinson and McWhite Oil Co. He was a Williamsburg County Magistrate from 1994-1999 and Chief Magistrate from 1999-2001 and then served as Municipal Judge for the Town of Kingstree. He was an active member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, serving on the Finance committee, Trustee Chairman, Head Usher, Treasurer for 6 years, and was a member of the Wallace Connor Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Ann E. Bohlen . He is survived by his wife Jean LaCoste Edwins; daughter, Melissa E. Davis of Irmo; son, W.A. “Chip” Edwins III of Kingstree; 2 grandchildren, Rachel Jean Davis and William Parker Davis; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 A.M Friday in Kingstree United Methodist Church, with burial in Kingstree Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 in the Ladies Parlor of the church. Memorials may be made to Kingstree United Methodist Church Maintenance Fund, 510 N.
