Werner Richard Thomisser (84), of Weddington, N.C., passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022, following a lengthy illness. He was born in New York City on June 22, 1938, to the late Ferdinand and Anna Eberhardt Thomisser. The family later moved to Somerville, NJ, where he graduated from Somerville High School. He came to the South to attend college at The Citadel in Charleston, SC, graduating in 1960. Following graduation, he was stationed in Quantico, VA, where he completed Officers Candidate School and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps. He was assigned to Camp Lejeune from where he was later deployed to the US Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. Following his discharge from the Marine Corps in 1963, he and Mary returned to the Washington, DC area where he worked for a pharmaceutical company before being transferred to Charlotte, NCin 1975 with the Dow Chemical Company. Always a diligent and hardworker, he worked at Dow Chemical in Consumer Products as a Regional Sales Manager for 28 years, receiving many recognitions and awards, including the President’s Club. After retiring, he enjoyed several trips to Europe where he was especially happy to visit with his relatives in Austria for the first time. After moving from Charlotte to Weddington, NC in 2002, he was honored to be elected to the Weddington Town Council which provided many wonderful friendships and rewarding accomplishments.
The true joy of his life was his family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary Rose Dykes Thomisser, who died on May 4, 2022. He is survived by his son Stephen and wife Elizabeth Bundy Thomisser; his daughter Cara Thomisser; and his beloved grandchildren, Abigail and Quillen Thomisser, and William and Henry Jordak, all of Charlotte. He is also survived by his brother, Fred Thomisser of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey; his brother-in-law Dr. Archie Dykes and wife Nancy Dykes of Leewood, Kansas; sister-in-law Linda Dykes, Rogersville, Tennessee and many nieces and nephews.
His family is grateful for the caregivers and staff at White Oak Manor in Lancaster, SC for their dedicated care.
A memorial service will be held at St. Gabriel Church in Charlotte, NC on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 2:00 PM. A private graveside service will follow. Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Funeral Services, 3700 Forest Lawn Dr., Matthews, NC 28104.
