Walter Anhorn, of Saint George, Utah, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5, at his home. A celebration of life for Walt is planned for a later date.
Walt was one of five children of the late Artur and Adeline (Schwabe) Anhorn. He was born on May 30, 1962 in Waterloo, NY. Walt grew up in Seneca Falls, NY and graduated from Mynderse Academy in 1980. He received his Bachelors in Mathematics from the Citadel in 1984 and his Masters in Systems Technology from the Naval Postgraduate School. Walt served as a Naval Service officer from 1984-1995. He worked as an engineer for NASA from 1996-1999. Walt’s most treasured accomplishment was becoming a father to his twin boys, Jakob and Zachary in 2000. Walt spent many years hanging out with his boys at home in Iowa. Together they enjoyed watching movies, going to amusement parks, watching football and fishing. Walt was fascinated by nature. He loved cooking clams, steak and potatoes and chili. He loved seafood; especially oysters right out of the can! Walt once visited his family in Las Vegas and took his nephew to a buffet for crab legs. They were gone so long, the rest of the family was ready to send out a search party and there wasn’t much left for the other diners! Walt moved to St. George in 2016 and met his girlfriend, Laurie. They enjoyed gambling in Mesquite and spending time in their RV together. Walt was so proud when his son, Zach decided to follow in his footsteps and enlist in the Navy. Zach is currently on active duty.
Walt is survived by his two sons, Jakob and Zachary Anhorn and their mother, Cherie Courtier of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Johanna (Ralph) Baker of Elizabethton, TN and Lisa McCulloch of Savannah, NY; and one brother, David (Tammy) Anhorn of Waterloo, NY. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Jason (Autumn) Baker of Piney Flats, TN, Logan, Levi and Luke Anhorn of Waterloo, NY; as well as his great-nieces and great-nephew, Anjolina, Christian and Faith Baker of Piney Flats, TN. Walt is survived by many friends, as well.
He will be greatly missed! Along with his parents, Walt was pre-deceased by his brother, Helmut in 2013 and his girlfriend, Laurie in 2022.
In honor of Walt, please consider reaching out to someone you may have lost touch with. Catch up with each other, look at old photos, have a few laughs and crack open a can of Fosters. The big can!
