ANDERSON, Wallace Entered into eternal rest on the morning of February 18, 2005, Major General Wallace Ervin Anderson, Retired President of The Citadel, husband of Rheta Frierson Anderson. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Major General and Mrs. Wallace E. Anderson are invited to attend the funeral services of the former Monday, February 21, 2005 at one o’clock in The Summerall Chapel The Citadel. Burial will be private. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Sunday between five and seven o’clock. Major General Anderson was born October 28, 1913 in Florence County, SC, the son of Miles H. Anderson and Laura Wallace Anderson. He was a First Honor Graduate of The Citadel in 1934, and a member of Sigma Pi Sigma, the Physics Honor Society at the University of Kentucky; a Special Rackham Fellow at The University of Michigan. He was a member of the Officers Reserve Corps, US Army from 1934-1964. He retired as President of The Citadel. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he served as Vestryman and Church Warden, a member of American Physical Society, American Association of Physics Teachers, Life Member of The Association of Citadel Men, Citadel Brigadier Club, Phi Kappa Phi, Low Country Chapter of American Red Cross, Rotary Club of Charleston, United Community Services of Charleston, Charleston Concert Association, American Legion and The Country Club of Charleston. He was listed in Who’s Who in America and American Men of Science. He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; two daughters: Sarah Graham Anderson and her husband Paul J. Cruise of Charleston, SC and Mary Wallace Anderson of New York City. Memorials may be made to The General Wallace E.
