ANDERSON, S.C.- Wade Allen Watson Jr., 85, of Foothills Presbyterian Home at Easley, S.C., and husband of Janet West Watson, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center. Following a family burial at Old Silver Brook Cemetery, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Central Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. David J. Bailey and Dr. John LeHeup. The body is at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel. He was born in Anderson on Aug. 25, 1918, the son of the late Wade A. Watson Sr. and Caroline Elsie Gray Watson. Mr. Watson was a 1940 graduate of The Citadel and was a veteran of WWII, U.S. Army, where he held the rank of captain. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He was former president and chairman of the Board of Perpetual Savings and Loan Association. He was a former city councilman in Anderson, and former school trustee and board chairman of School District No. 5. He was a member and elder of Central Presbyterian Church. Surviving in addition to his wife, Janet Watson, are one son, Charles West Watson, and his wife, Cynthia C. Watson of Columbia; one daughter, Caroline Watson Green and her husband Stephen L. Green of Greensboro; one brother, Jim Gray Watson and his wife Julia Anderson Watson of Anderson; four grandchildren: James Norman Lyons and his wife Lisa E. Lyons, Justin S. Lyons and his wife Kimberly A. Lyons, Charles West Watson II, and Martha Elizabeth Watson; and a great-grandson, Grayson Michael Lyons. He was preceded in death by one son, Wade A. Watson III. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. The honorary escort will be elders of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Foothills Presbyterian Home, 205 Bud Nalley Drive, Easley, SC 29642. Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
