Timothy Michael Corcoran, 76, passed away at his Oakton, VA home on January 31, 2023 after his four year-long battle with tongue cancer.
Timothy, fondly known as Tim, was born to Charles “Charlie” and Anna Mae “Nan” Corcoran on July 7, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA. Throughout his childhood as a member of a military family, Tim lived in numerous locations both abroad and stateside. He attended Paris American High School and graduated from Justice High School, then known as J.E.B. Stuart High School, in Falls Church VA in 1964.
After graduating from The Citadel in 1968, Tim served his country for 20 years in the United States Army. During his armed forces career, he served in the Vietnam War earning the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal among others. Tim served two tours in Germany and one tour in Australia as an Exchange Officer with the Australian Army. Through these assignments, he took the opportunity to visit other countries and become a world traveler.
Tim married his wife Patricia “Pat” in 1986 and retired from the Army with the rank of Major in 1989. He transitioned to the information technology field as a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton, CDSI, The Orkand Corporation, Northrop Grumman, and Black & Veatch Solutions before retiring in 2011.
Tim was a gifted athlete and coach. He pitched a no-hitter in high school. At The Citadel, Tim played freshman and varsity football, earning an athletic scholarship his last two years. He coached a VII Corps baseball team during his first tour in Germany. Tim was an active skier and enjoyed visiting his Jackson Hole, WY condo with his family. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Leo the Great Parish in Fairfax, VA. Tim had an unfailing sense of humor and a deep appreciation for dark chocolate. He cherished his family as a husband and father.
He is survived by his wife Pat; his children Teige, Ciara, and Caitrin; and brother Patrick. He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Nan and brothers Dennis and Sean.
