Lt. Col. Thompson C. Wofford, III, 41, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at Providence Alaska
Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. Memorial services will be held at 10:02 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at 962 AACS on JBER. Chaplain Derek Marley will officiate. Additional memorial services with full military honors will be held at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma at a future date. His ashes will be scattered in Alaska, Oklahoma and South Carolina by his family.
Thompson was born Oct. 3, 1975, to Tom and Sandi Wofford in Charleston, S.C. He graduated from Citadel, Class of 1997, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Admin/Management Accounting and furthered his education at the Aero Space Technology, Class of 2008, Embry Riddle with a Master’s Degree. Thompson served our country in the United States Air Force entering on June 4, 1997, until his passing. He received the DMS MDL (Defense Meritorious Service Medal), AF COMM Medal, AF ACHIEV Medal and the Merit SVC, AIR Medal and AIR ACHV Medal all awarded twice.
Thompson had lived in Charleston, S.C., Oklahoma City, Okla., and Woodbridge, Va., before he moved to Eagle River, Alaska, in 2015. He enjoyed camping, ATV and outdoor activities.
“He was an amazing husband, father and man that was always willing to help someone,” wrote his wife.
Thompson is survived by his wife, Julie Wofford, of Eagle River; daughters, Caroline and Alyson Wofford of Eagle River; parents, Tom and Sandi Wofford of Jefferson, Ga.; sister, Cindy Prehar of Cumming, Ga.; and multiple nieces and nephews of Cumming, Ga., Katy, Tex. and Blue Springs, Mo.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Thompson’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675-8517.
