Theo Elam (Sonny) Cochrane, Jr., LINCOLNTON — Mr. Cochrane passed peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2008 Lincoln Medical Center. He was born November 10, 1926 in Lincoln County, North Carolina to Theo Elam Cochrane, Sr. and Ethel Gabriel Cochrane. He graduated from Lincolnton High School and The Citadel. He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Sherrills Ford and a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II. He is survived by his wife Wanda Duncan Cochrane and three children, Theo Elam Cochrane, III and wife Lana of Westerville, Ohio, Carole Ann Cochrane, Bruce Reed Cochrane and wife Deborah of Lincolnton. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren, Brian Cochrane, Whitney Cochrane King, Gino Angulo, Ari Angulo, and Gabe Cochrane. Four great grandchildren include Tara Cochrane, Samuel Reed King, Diego Angulo, and Lander Ansley King. The former president and CEO of Cochrane Furniture, he was a lifelong Mason and Shriner. He was a former Deacon and Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Lincolnton and also served as a Sunday school teacher, Boy Scout and youth leader in the church. He served on the Red Cross board and delivered ‘Meals on Wheels’ for twenty-five years. Chairman of the Lincoln County Airport Authority, he worked tirelessly for sixteen years to finally see his dream of a local airport in Lincolnton fulfilled. The quietly generous outdoorsman embraced nature and had a special love of hunting, travel, and the North Carolina mountains. He will be missed by all and his special companion dog, Bear. Visitation will be held in the fellowship hall at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2008. The memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m in the chapel at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church at 4136 Mount Pleasant Church Road, Sherrills Ford, NC 28673 or the Humane Society.
