Thomas Steve “HOOT” Gibson, 69, of Charleston, South Carolina passed away, Saturday, June 23, 2018. He was born on August 5, 1948, in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late Thomas Earl and Betty Kay (White) Gibson. Survivors include his children, Logan Elizabeth Gibson and Christopher Monroe Gibson; grandchild, Saylor Brooke Gibson; brother, Earl Wyatt Gibson; sister, Candice Gibson Poole (Brian). Previous wife of 45 years, Susan Rebecca Gibson. Girlfriend, Holly Thames. Hoot graduated from The Citadel in 1970 as a member of the Summerall Guard. He continued his education at USC with a masters in education. He served in the US Army from 1971-1973. Hoot enjoyed fishing, the beach, and had a wonderful love for the low country. He enjoyed volunteering with his fellow classmates at various community services. One of his favorite pastimes was creating a unique style of art he referred to as “hard art”. Hoot will be remembered for his quick wit, his colorful and unique personality, and will be missed by many. The family will receive friends on June 27, 2018, from 5:00PM-7:00PM at The Citadel Summerall Chapel, 171 Moultrie St., Charleston, SC 29409, where his celebration of life service will be held immediately following visitation at 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Citadel Foundation, Class of 1970, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, South Carolina 29409 in Hoot’s memory.
