Thomas Clark Henderson, of Beaufort, South Carolina, was called home on June 14, 2023. His loving family, amazing friends, Citadel classmates, members of the Beaufort and Charleston communities, and attending clergy surrounded him. Clark was born on February 27, 1998, at Naval Hospital Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Virginia. While born in Virginia, he was a native of South Carolina, spending his first months on the Grand Strand in North Myrtle Beach before moving to Beaufort with his parents in the fall of 1998 where he met his first friends. He was raised in a loving and supportive church community. Clark’s formative years were spent as an active member of the Parish Church of St. Helena (Anglican) in Beaufort, where he was baptized, confirmed, and where he developed a personal relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ. Clark served as an acolyte, usher, participated in youth group and Boy Scout Troop 1712 where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. It was here that he further developed life-long friendships. His education began at Port Royal Elementary School, followed by Beaufort Middle School, and then Beaufort High School where he graduated as a member of the Class of 2016. Along the way he played football, his favorite sport, starting early with the Port Royal Bulldogs in the Beaufort County PALS league, followed by the Beaufort Middle School Gryphons, and the Beaufort High School Eagles. Through school and sports he further expanded his circle of life-long friends. A Class of 2020 graduate of The Citadel, Clark earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a minor in Fine Arts. While at The Citadel he held rank from sophomore to senior years in “Mike” Company and was a member of St. Alban’s Anglican Chapel. Engraved in his ring is Isaiah 41:13. Once again he continued his pattern of developing life-long friends. Following graduation from The Citadel during the pandemic, Clark was accepted into the Clemson University Graduate School and he earned his Master of Business Administration in May 2022. His strong work ethic was developed early under mentors during summer jobs at Dempsey Farms on St. Helena Island, the Yahnis Company in Florence, South Carolina, Fripp Island Resort, and most recently in his current position as a Project Supervisor with MECO Kentucky, LLC. All who know Clark know that his true passion is the outdoors, enjoying activities of all kinds, getting out on the river, going down to the camp, and out to the farm. All places where he could fully immerse himself in the pastimes he loved – hunting deer and turkey, and fishing in both fresh and salt water. Clark was a member of the Citadel Alumni Association (Life Member); the Beaufort Citadel Club; Theta Commission, Kappa Alpha Order; the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution; and the National Eagle Scout Association. Clark lived a life filled with ambition and spirit. He was a loving son, grandson, and nephew, a dedicated brother, and a reliable friend, whose presence brought warmth and joy to those around him. As J.R.R. Tolkien once said, “Little by little, one travels far,” and Clark’s journey was a testament to the power of perseverance and hard work. His sister, Elizabeth, said it best, “This isn’t ‘Good-bye’, it’s ‘See ya’ later.’” … Further on up the road. Clark is survived by his parents, Colonel Mark J Henderson, USMCR (Ret) and Eugenia Kelley Henderson, his sister, Elizabeth Henderson, his grandmothers Jane Henderson of Greenville, South Carolina, and Anne Kelley of Lake City, South Carolina; uncle, Thomas Kelley of Salters, South Carolina, and aunt, Turi Henderson of London, United Kingdom. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home (611 Robert Smalls Parkway, Beaufort, South Carolina, 29906). The funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Helena Anglican (507 Newcastle Street, Beaufort, South Carolina, 29902). A reception will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church’s parish hall. Clark will be laid to rest at Lake City Memorial Park (522 West Main Street, Lake City, South Carolina, 29560) on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Alban’s Anglican Chapel, The Citadel (link provided below), or to a charity of your choice.
