Stephen Allen Rothstein, 71, of Gainesville, FL, passed away Friday, December 23, 2016 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was born November 2, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas to Daniel and Wrenna Fulton Rothstein. He was a graduate of the Citadel in 1967, and a graduate of the Medical College of South Carolina. He was a passionate physician that cared deeply about his patients, and will be remembered for always keeping the tapestry of the family together. He was on the Board of St. Francis House and a very active member of the local dance community. Stephen was an avid gardener and a great lover of animals. Stephen is survived by his sons, Mont Rothstein of San Diego, CA and Jakob Rothstein (Brie) of Lubbock, TX; four brothers, John Rothstein of Kittery, ME, Robert Rothstein of Minneapolis, MN, Sam Kasle, and Douglas Kasle of California; three sisters, Lois Fowler, of Gainesville, Rebecca Rothstein-Monroe of Sarasota, and Rachel Lenertz of Sarasota; grandson, Gabe Rothstein, and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Family and close friends will be gathering privately to celebrate Stephen’s life. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to St. Francis House, 413 S Main St, Gainesville, FL 32601.
