Roberts of Plantation Estates, Matthews, NC died December 6, 2007. Col. Roberts was born on February 28, 1918 in Bowling Green KY. He was a graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, Class of 1939. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII 1941-1945 with two years in the Pacific Theater, upon his return home Col. Roberts remained in the Army Reserve for 32 years. Stanley also retired after 27 years with Sears, Roebuck and Co. Col. Roberts was a member and past Commander of the Charlotte Chapter of The Military Order of the World Wars, he was also a member of Matthews Presbyterian Church. Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years Evelyn Kirkland Roberts, his daughters Karen Roberts of Boston, MA and Susan Moseley of New Bern, NC; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The Funeral service will be 2:00pm Sunday, December 9, at Matthews Presbyterian Church, 207 W. John St., Matthews, NC, with a private burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Charlotte, the Rev. William C. Pederson officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Matthews Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 97, Matthews, NC 28106.
