Solomon “Sol” Morse, Jr., 98, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Ola Mae Guerry Morse, entered into eternal rest Friday, December 5, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. His Funeral Service will be held in J. Henry Stuhr, Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston at 2:00pm, Friday, December 12, 2025. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Drive, North Charleston. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until time of service in J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home.
Sol was born August 20, 1927, in North Charleston, South Carolina, son of Solomon Morse, Sr. and Gertrude Knight Morse. He lived his whole life in Park Circle. When he was born he lived on Glenshaw St. on “Fiddler’s Island”. Later his family moved to O’Hear Ave. His family ran various businesses in Olde North Charleston including Sol’s Lunch and the Joy Wagon, a concession wagon that serviced the old GARCO plant. Sol worked at both of these. Later the family moved to a house they built on Park Circle proper. In 1958 Sol moved into this house with his wife and children after his parents moved out. He would live in this house the rest of his life.
Sol graduated from Augusta Military Academy in Virginia. He was in the US Navy and served during World War II and the Korean War. He was a Citadel Graduate, Class of 1951. After his Navy service he went to work at his uncle’s company, R. Harry Morse Insurance Agency. He would become President of the company, and this would be his only career job until he retired in 1998. In retirement he worked part-time at the Charleston Auto Auction as a driver.
He met his wife, whom he loved and cherished, in Olde North Charleston. They celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary on September 9, 2025. They traveled extensively in retirement. Sol was loved and adored by his wife, children, relatives and friends.
Sol served on various public committees throughout his life including as Chairman of the Charleston County Election Commission. He was a lifetime charter member of Park Circle Baptist Church (1951), now Portside, where he served as a deacon, treasurer, and on various committees.
He is survived by his wife, Ola Mae Guerry Morse, son, Solomon Morse, III, two daughters, Kaye Morse Brewer (Rick) and Kim Morse Greiner (Hoke); and two grandchildren, Richard Justin Brewer and Kaitlyn Savannah Greiner.
