Simmons Stephen Spain, Jr., 63, of Henrico, Va. passed away in July 2025. He was the son of the late Simmons Stephen Spain, Sr. and Lillie Gibson Spain and the husband of the late Donna Newman Spain.
He was born on November 20, 1961, in Charlotte, N.C. He attended Brookville High School in Lynchburg, Va., then obtained a bachelor’s degree in business from the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
Following his graduation from the Citadel, Simmons was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and served many years, obtaining the rank of Captain.
He was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his friends and family. Simmons spent his professional career as a procurement officer, both in the military and then for the State of Virginia until his retirement in the mid 2010’s.
Simmons is survived by his brothers, Kenneth B. Spain and his wife Nikki, Cary D. Spain and his wife Kelly; along with his nieces, Susan C. Spain, and Gabriella D. Spain, and Tim Dudley and his wife Cheryl, and nieces Kimberley Demaree (deceased), Kelley Florian, Courtney McCauley; and nephew, Timothy (Trae) Dudley; as well as with many loving family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., August 18, 2025, at Virginia Memorial Park, 11490 Forest Rd, Forest, VA 24551. Bliley’s Funeral Home – Staples Mill, is assisting the family.
