Sidney Keith Cummins, 55, of Beaufort passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Keith was born on October 6, 1956 in Beaufort to Robert W., Sr. and Barbara Stokes Cummins. He is a 1974 graduate of Beaufort Academy and a 1978 graduate of The Citadel, earning a degree in business administration. While in school, Keith was on all-star teams in baseball, basketball and football. At The Citadel, he was a member of the 1978 Summerall Guards, the prestigious silent drill team. In December 1978, Keith married his wife, now of 33 years, Karen Perry Cummins. In 1985, he and his new family returned to make Beaufort their home. As his children, grew, he coached youth baseball and basketball teams. He also served as a Deacon at Sea Island Presbyterian Church. One of his proudest accomplishments was being elected Commodore of the 2006 Beaufort Water Festival, after volunteering with the event for a decade. At the time of his death, Keith was a marketing representative for Sysco Food Services, and for 27 years has been well-known throughout the Beaufort restaurant community. Keith is survived by his wife, Karen Perry Cummins ; his daughter Sydney, of Columbia; his son Ryan and daughter-in-law Emily [Deal Cummins], of Lexington; and his son Perry, of Beaufort. Also surviving are his parents, of Beaufort; his brother Robert W. Cummins, Jr. and sister-in-law Jody, of Beaufort; his sister Barbara Anne Cummins, of Stockbridge, GA; nephew Robert W. Cummins, III and his wife Jessica, of Lexington; and niece Jennifer Cummins, of Myrtle Beach. Keith was an avid sports fan and loved backyard barbeques. He loved dearly his family, the Water Festival and his Citadel Bulldogs. Family was very important to him and it was that love that he instilled into his children. His two sons followed in his footsteps at The Citadel and his daughter followed in her mother’s to the College of Charleston. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. , Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Sea Island Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Steve Keeler officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 12:30 p.m.- 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Citadel Cummins Scholarship Fund, SCB&T, 189 Sea Island Parkway, Beaufort, SC, 29907.
