Russell Duncan Warren, of Williams, owner of R.D. Warren Building Supply and husband of Laura Griffin Warren, died Wednesday in Colleton Medical Center. He was 90. Mr. Warren was born January 8, 1915, in Williams, the youngest child of Burdette Monroe Warren and Leonora Gertrude Warren. Mr. Warren was a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1936, with a BS in physics. He served in the S.C. National Guard from 1932-1942 and then joined a U.S. Navy Sea Bee construction battalion, 1942-1945, which was assigned to the Pacific Theater during World War II. In 1946, Mr. Warren established R.D. Warren Building Supply. From 1955-1965, he was one of the stockholders in Warren & Griffin Lumber, Inc. In 1970 he with his son, Duncan, founded Academy Homes, Inc. As a member of the Williams Town Government from 1946-1970, Mr. Warren served as councilman, mayor pro tem, mayor and town judge. He was a life-long member of Williams United Methodist Church and the oldest member of Smoaks Masonic Lodge. He was a member of The Citadel Alumni Association and the Brigadier Club. He worked 8 hours a day until he was 90, his mind stayed sharp until the end. Mr. Warren was a excellent bridge player who enjoyed success as a businessman, dealing with customers in an honest and forthright manner. He served well his town, state, and country. Surviving besides his wife of 68 years are son, Duncan Warren and wife, Beth, of Williams; daughter, Carey Speaks and husband, Howard, of Walterboro; grandchildren, Emily Warren-Harter and husband, Stephen, Rebecca S. Marino and husband, Charles, Griffin B. Warren and Virginia Speaks. Also a great-grandchild, Langley Harter. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde B. Warren, Leo M. Warren, J. Otto Warren and Malcolm S. Warren and two sisters, Harriett Smith and Donye W. Stone. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, conducted by Rev.
