Roy Harold Martin, Jr., 58 of Bancroft, Wisc., died on Friday evening, August 1st, 2025 at home. He was born on March 5th, 1967 in Anderson, South Carolina, son to Minnie Lee Martin (Bolt) and Roy Harold Martin, Sr.
On September 14th, 1993 in Killeen, Texas, Roy married Bonnie Josephine Benaszeski. Roy and Bonnie met during their military service in the U.S Army. They both were 98G Russian Electronic Interceptors. Together, Roy and Bonnie lived at Bonnie’s great-grandparents homestead in Plover, Wisconsin. Then they bought the old St. Martin’s Church in Bancroft.
Roy received his teaching degree at the Citadel in South Carolina and taught on Edisto Island and also in Wisconsin. He later earned his degree in Computer Science from UW-Stevens Point. Roy went to Afghanistan for a couple of tours as a contractor for the U.S. Military. He was currently working for Burroughs, repairing ATMs and safes.
Roy’s earlier achievements were becoming an Eagle Scout and playing the French horn in the high school and college marching band.
Roy was a “jack of all trades”. He and Bonnie did a lot of home remodeling and worked together on their automobiles.
Roy was a great teacher and parent to his wonderful daughter, Frances. Kids loved him because he treated them with respect and he listened to them.
Roy is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Benaszeski and his daughter and his son-in-law, Frances Martin and Brendan Stave. He is further survived by his sisters, Janet Martin and Grace (Dennis) Bazzy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sarah (Jim) Trevino; and James Lookabill.
A Service of Remembrance for Roy will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 8th at Pisarski Community Funeral Home, 2911, Plover Road, Plover. The visitation will be at 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Full military honors will follow. Burial will be at a later date. Pisarski Funeral Homes are honored to be serving the Martin-Benaszeski Family.
