Lieutenant Commander Ronald K. Green, United States Navy, retired, age 75, of Charleston, SC and husband of Shelby J. Green, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the evening of Friday, May 4, 2012. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, he was a son of the late Vernon and Bessie Green. Ron was educated in Missouri public schools. A graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL, he received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Citadel. A United States Navy retiree with twenty-six years of service, Ron was a licensed Nursing Home Administrator and retired as a Hospital Administrator. Ron and Shelby have been active members of Fort Johnson Baptist Church on James Island for over 37 years. During this time, Ron served many roles, including Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Nursery worker. Ron was always available to serve in any capacity at the church. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle, Ron is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shelby Jean Green; 3 children: Vivian Marie Green of Waldorf, MD; Ronald “Ron” Wayne Green and wife Donna of Washington, DC; Leonard Dale Green and wife Deborah of Port Orchard, WA; 2 Grandsons: Matthew and wife Audra of Fort Campbell, KY, Micah and wife Melody of Colorado; 4 Great-grandchildren; 1 Brother, Ray Scott of Princeton, IL, and special cousin Pat Rice of Arnold, MO. He was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Graham. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Ron and Shelby Green are invited to attend the funeral service, with full military honors, for the former at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 8, 2012, from the sanctuary of Fort Johnson Baptist Church, 1473 Camp Road, Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00 pm on Monday, May 7, 2012, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, and also one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment will take place at 3:30 pm Tuesday at the Ridgeland Cemetery, Ridgeland, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fort Johnson Baptist Church Building Fund.
