Ronald (Ron) Howard Holmes, 85, passed away on November 19, 2025, in Charleston, South Carolina. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who gave generously of his time and talents to his family, his work, and his community.
Ron graduated from Conway High School in 1958 and earned his BA in Business Administration from The Citadel in 1962. He served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1965. His career in human resources included positions at AVCO Lycoming, AQ Industries, and Snelling & Snelling before he joined Santee Cooper in 1972. He retired in 2006 as Vice President of Human Resources after 34 years of dedicated service.
Ron was an active member of Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and Moderator of the Personnel Committee. He believed in giving back and was involved with numerous organizations, including The Citadel Alumni Association, Trident United Way, the American Society of Human Resource Management, the Tri-County Personnel Management Association, and the South Carolina Council.
Ron was a man of great faith who loved NASCAR racing, pot roast, oysters, reading, history, hardware stores, God, his church and church family, and Santee Cooper and its employees. He intensely loved his family. His greatest pastime was napping and getting a good back scratch.
Ron is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judith King Holmes; his sons, Mark A. Holmes (Bonnie), Brian H. Holmes (Angel), and Stephen R. Holmes; his grandchildren, Parker E. Holmes, Jason A. Holmes, Riley P. Postell, and Chase H. Postell; his brother, Joseph H. Holmes (Lauren). He was preceded in death by his father, Hoyt H. Holmes (Peggy); his mother, Alice Chestnut Mooneyhan (Arthur); and his grandparents, Andrew J. and Edna V. Holmes, and Joseph L. and Lottie H. Chestnut.
A memorial service will be held at Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church at 5931 Murray Drive, Hanahan, SC 29410 on Monday, November 24, 2025 at 1:00pm with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church or The Citadel Foundation at 171 Moultrie St, Charleston, SC 29409. Ron will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
