Roger William Sherman, M.D., 76, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2015 at home, surrounded by his family. Roger was born in Grosse Pointe, MI, to Alvin and Albertine Sherman on September 7, 1938, as the youngest of seven children. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne (Baker) Sherman of 27 years; his five children, Stephanie Sherman, Roger Sherman Jr. (Patti), Dianne Venetta (Jon), Banning Sherman (Merceditas) and Skye Nosbisch (Aaron); his six grandchildren, Banning Jr., Ryan, Collier, Nicholas, Roger Jr., and Christian; and a large extended family. Born a “blue baby” (tetralogy of fallot), Roger was not expected to live past the age of 10, making each and every day of his life a miracle. He never took this for granted; anyone who knows him could tell you that he was the embodiment of living life to the fullest. His childhood illness was the inspiration for his lifelong career. He graduated fromthe University of Miami School of Medicine and became a prominent Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon in Miami, Leesburg, and The Villages. He attended Miami Edison High School and The Citadel, and later joined the Air Force. Roger proudly served on the CFHA Board of Directors and was instrumental in establishing open-heart surgery programs in both Miami and Leesburg. He enjoyed a flourishing surgical practice in The Villages along with a successful aviation medicine practice. Second to his love of medicine was his passion for flying; Roger was well known for his multiple aviation ratings, including ATP, multi-engine CFII, seaplanes, helicopters, and jets. In 1991, he relocated to Leesburg, where he built his dream home with a private airstrip and spent many hours flying. A service of remembrance will be held at Paquette’s ShowBarn in Leesburg on January 24, 2015, at 2:00pm, 615 S. Whitney Rd. Memorial contributions may be made to childrensheartfoundation.org Online condolences may be left at www.beyersfuneralhome.com. Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg
